Golden State Warriors’ Draymond Green Suspended for Five Games by NBA
In a shocking turn of events, Draymond Green of the Golden State Warriors has been handed a five-game suspension by the NBA after an on-court altercation during Tuesday’s game against the Minnesota Timberwolves. The incident occurred when Rudy Gobert grabbed Klay Thompson, prompting Green to place Gobert in a headlock that lasted for several seconds.
As a result of this incident, fines have also been imposed on Gobert, Thompson, and Timberwolves forward Jaden McDaniels. All three players have been fined $25,000 for their involvement in the altercation. However, it is Green who has faced the most severe punishment due to his “history of unsportsmanlike acts,” which includes a previous suspension for stomping on Domantas Sabonis in April.
Warriors head coach Steve Kerr has publicly expressed his support for the NBA’s ruling. Kerr stated that Green “took it too far” and that the suspension is “deserved.” Initially, Kerr had no issues with Green intervening in the altercation, but he now believes that the player should have released Gobert after a few seconds.
This recent incident adds to a string of altercations involving Green. Last October, he made headlines for punching teammate Jordan Poole during a training camp. These incidents raise questions about Green’s on-court behavior and whether it may be detrimental to his team’s performance.
Unfortunately, Green’s suspension will see him miss several upcoming games, including matchups against the Oklahoma City Thunder, Houston Rockets, Phoenix Suns, and San Antonio Spurs. The Warriors will have to navigate these games without one of their key players. Green will be eligible to return for the team’s final In-Season Tournament contest against the Sacramento Kings on November 28th.
As fans anxiously await Green’s return, the incident serves as a reminder of the fine line between aggressive play and unsportsmanlike behavior in the NBA. The league continues to take a strong stance against such actions, reinforcing the importance of maintaining professionalism and respect on the court.
