Acclaimed director Craig Gillespie, known for his work on hits such as Cruella and I, Tonya, is reportedly in talks to helm Warner Bros’ DC Studios’ upcoming project Supergirl. The highly anticipated movie is set to be shot in the fourth quarter of this year, following the completion and release of James Gunn’s Superman, scheduled for July 11, 2025.
Rising star Milly Alcock has been cast in the iconic role of Supergirl and will be making her big-screen debut in this project. Before that, she will also appear in another DC project, building anticipation for her portrayal of the superhero.
Based on Tom King’s comic book series Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, the film is being adapted for the big screen by Ana Nogueira. James Gunn, who is involved in the project, has described this version of Supergirl as a more hardcore take on the character, delving into her traumatic past on Krypton.
Gillespie’s involvement in the project is particularly exciting given his successful track record with female-driven projects like I, Tonya and Cruella. However, when reached for comment, DC remained tight-lipped about Gillespie’s potential role in bringing Supergirl to life on the big screen.
Fans are eagerly looking forward to seeing how Gillespie will bring his unique vision to this beloved superhero tale, and the anticipation for Supergirl continues to build as more details are unveiled about the project. Stay tuned for updates on this exciting addition to the DC Extended Universe.
