Chicago-based grocery chains Dom’s Kitchen & Market and Foxtrot Market have announced the closure of all their stores, just six months after their much-anticipated merger. The decision to shut down operations was made after careful consideration, with doors set to close on April 23, 2024.
The closure will affect both Dom’s locations in Chicago and all 33 Foxtrot stores in Chicago, Texas, and the Washington D.C. area. Despite exploring various avenues to keep the business running, the companies found no viable option to sustain operations, despite their good faith efforts.
The merger of Dom’s Kitchen & Market and Foxtrot Market took place under the new entity Outfox Hospitality in November, aiming to create a stronger presence in the competitive grocery market. However, the challenges proved to be insurmountable, leading to the difficult decision to close all stores.
Customers who hold Foxtrot and Dom’s account credits and member perks are advised that these will expire effective Tuesday, with no opportunity for redemption. Dom’s Kitchen & Market, launched in June 2021 in Lincoln Park, was a new concept from Bob Mariano, the founder of the popular Mariano’s grocery store chain in Chicago. The second location opened in Old Town in November 2022.
Described as the “newest next-generation local food emporium,” Dom’s offered a unique array of specialty items, prepared foods, and locally sourced products. The stores also featured wine tastings, cooking demonstrations, coffee shops, and offered wine and beer for customers to enjoy while shopping. The closure of these beloved grocery chains marks the end of an era in the Chicago grocery scene.
