A series of tornadoes wreak havoc in suburban Omaha and Iowa, leaving a trail of destruction in their wake.
Multiple tornadoes were reported to have caused significant damage to homes and businesses in Nebraska and Iowa. Fortunately, there were no reported fatalities, with fewer than two dozen people receiving treatment at hospitals in the Omaha area.
Nebraska Governor Jim Pillen and Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds toured the affected areas, arranging for assistance to those impacted by the storms. One particularly destructive tornado passed over Eppley Airfield in Omaha, causing damage to buildings and privately owned planes.
The storm continued into Iowa, damaging homes in the small town of Minden. The severe weather also disrupted plans for Nebraska football fans heading to the spring game, as tornado watches were issued by the National Weather Service for parts of Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, and Iowa.
As a precaution, schools in the region canceled proms due to the severe weather forecasts. Meteorologist Bruce Thoren warned that tornadoes were possible throughout the Midwest on Saturday, heightening concerns for residents and officials alike. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.
