Google announces exciting news for users of the Pixel 8 series as they plan to add display output support in the upcoming June update. The Pixel 8a, in particular, currently does not support display output when connected to an external monitor, but this will soon change with the new software update.
Historically, the Pixel lineup has not included display output capabilities, but with the release of the Pixel 8 series, Google has decided to change gears. The Pixel 8 already quietly enabled display output in an Android beta update, and now the Pixel 8a is set to receive the same support in the next month’s software update.
All three phones in the Pixel 8 series share internal components, including hardware support for display output via USB-C. Display output was initially disabled through a system property, but Google has since enabled it for users in the Android beta program and will roll it out to all users in the June stable update.
The update will set the system property to enable DisplayPort Alternate Mode by default for the Pixel 8a, allowing for screen mirroring on external displays. This will benefit users or developers looking to utilize Android’s desktop mode.
