In a shocking turn of events, California Democrat Katie Porter lost the open Senate primary, sparking controversy and accusations of underhanded tactics in the race. Porter, who failed to secure the Democratic nomination, took a swipe at Rep. Adam Schiff and special interest groups, alleging that they spent millions “peddling lies” to boost the Republican candidate, Steve Garvey.
Despite vowing to keep fighting, Porter’s accusations raised eyebrows as she herself received millions from big donors, including Wall Street, tech companies, universities, healthcare providers, and lawyers. With just under $28 million raised in her Senate campaign, Porter slightly trailed Schiff’s fundraising efforts of $31 million.
Schiff, who spent millions on ads portraying Garvey as a staunch Trump ally, successfully squeezed out Porter and Lee from the race, setting up a showdown between himself and Garvey in the general election. Porter redirected at least half a million dollars in ads attacking another GOP contender, Eric Early, while positioning Garvey as the more dangerous candidate.
The highly contested Senate seat, previously held by Sen. Dianne Feinstein for over 30 years, saw Gov. Gavin Newsom appoint Sen. Laphonza Butler to fill the vacancy after Feinstein’s passing. Garvey’s victory speech hinted at striking out the status quo, despite Schiff being the favored candidate in the upcoming general election.
Fox News Digital reached out to Schiff, Lee, Porter, and Garvey’s campaigns for comment, but the outcome of this contentious race remains to be seen. Stay tuned to World News Live for the latest updates on this riveting political saga.
