Republican Congresswoman Lauren Boebert has announced her plans to change districts in the upcoming 2024 election. Boebert intends to seek office in Colorado’s 4th Congressional District, which is currently represented by Republican U.S. Rep. Ken Buck. Buck recently revealed that he will not seek reelection in 2024, citing the Republican Party’s support of former President Donald Trump and what he referred to as an embrace of conspiracy theories.
In a Facebook video announcement, Boebert emphasized the importance of maintaining a conservative voice for Colorado in Congress and keeping the Republican House majority. Currently representing Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District, Boebert’s territory covers the northwest corner of the state, extending south through Grand Junction to the southeast corner and east to Pueblo, as well as the southern central portion of the state.
The 4th Congressional District, which Boebert intends to campaign for, includes most of the eastern half of the state, along with Douglas County and Greeley. Boebert secured her reelection in 2022 against Democratic challenger Adam Frisch by a slim margin of just over 500 votes. Frisch has announced his plans to run again for the 3rd Congressional District.
Both Republican and Democratic candidates have emerged, expressing their intent to run for both the 3rd and 4th Congressional District seats. Boebert can expect to face tough competition in the primary election for the 4th Congressional District, as there are already six other Republican candidates vying for the position.
In her announcement, Boebert stated her commitment to fighting for conservatives in Colorado and across the United States, opposing what she referred to as “Democrat socialists and communists.” It is worth noting that Boebert currently resides in Garfield County, which is located hundreds of miles away from the 4th Congressional District. However, she assured voters that she would relocate if elected.
Critics, primarily Democrats, have condemned Boebert for “abandoning” her current constituents, calling her move “cowardly.” Meanwhile, Trent Leisy, a candidate for the seat Boebert is seeking, criticized her move from a strategic standpoint and expressed his disagreement with expanding the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA).
As the 2024 election approaches, all eyes will be on the competitive primaries in both the 3rd and 4th Congressional Districts, as candidates from various political affiliations vie for a place in Congress.
