Title: BJP leaders meet at PM Modi’s residence to finalize CM candidates for key heartland states
A crucial meeting was held at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s official residence where top leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) discussed the selection of Chief Ministers for three crucial heartland states. These decisions are of great significance as they will play a crucial role in the upcoming general elections next year.
Earlier, the 12 MPs who had resigned from parliament after winning the assembly polls had a meeting with the Prime Minister, hinting that this gathering could be the decisive moment to finalize the Chief Ministerial candidates. The three states in question are Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh, with the BJP recently securing victories in Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, while retaining its hold on Madhya Pradesh.
Unlike other parties, BJP did not announce any specific Chief Ministerial candidate during the elections, relying instead on the popularity of PM Modi. However, with the selection of CMs now at hand, the party’s decision holds immense importance as these states account for 65 Lok Sabha seats. Any miscalculated choice could prove detrimental for BJP in the 2024 elections.
It is believed that PM Modi prefers candidates to be selected based on their class rather than caste. Speculations suggest that a tribal candidate might be chosen for Chhattisgarh, a representative from Backward Classes for Madhya Pradesh, and a Rajput for Rajasthan. Furthermore, the chosen candidate should be from the youth, working class, or a woman, and must possess a humble demeanor, avoiding sensational statements and decisions.
The current Chief Ministers of the three states, Vasundhara Raje in Rajasthan, Raman Singh in Chhattisgarh, and Shivraj Singh Chouhan in Madhya Pradesh, have left the decision in the hands of the Central leadership.
In Rajasthan, potential frontrunners for the Chief Minister’s position included Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, party veteran Kirori Lal Meena, and state BJP chief CP Joshi. Meanwhile, in Madhya Pradesh, besides Shivraj Singh Chouhan, contenders consist of Union ministers Prahlad Singh Patel, Jyotiraditya Scindia, BJP national general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya, and Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar.
In Chhattisgarh, potential candidates vying for the Chief Minister’s post include former Chief Minister Raman Singh, state BJP president Arun Kumar Sao, leader of the opposition Dharamlal Kaushik, and former IAS officer O P Chaudhary.
The decision on the selection of Chief Ministers for these three key states will not only impact the political scenario in the heartland but will also have far-reaching effects on the BJP’s future prospects in the upcoming general elections.
