Airbnb Bans Indoor Security Cameras in All Listings Worldwide
In a recent announcement, Airbnb revealed a new policy that will prohibit the use of indoor security cameras in all of its listings worldwide, starting on April 30. Previously, hosts were allowed to use indoor security cameras in common areas like hallways and living rooms, as long as they were disclosed on the listing page before booking. However, cameras were strictly prohibited in areas such as bathrooms and bedrooms.
The updated policy now completely bans the use of security cameras inside listings, regardless of their location or purpose. This move comes as part of Airbnb’s effort to prioritize guest privacy and safety. Any violations of the new policy will be thoroughly investigated and could potentially lead to the removal of the listing or account holder from the platform.
Although indoor security cameras are no longer allowed, hosts are still permitted to use devices such as doorbell cameras and noise decibel monitors, as long as they are disclosed before booking. However, these devices can only be placed in common spaces and cannot monitor indoor areas with an expectation of privacy.
According to Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky, the majority of listings on the platform do not currently have security cameras, so this policy update is only expected to impact a smaller subset of listings. Guests can rest assured that their privacy and safety are top priorities for Airbnb as they continue to enhance their policies and regulations.
